Compelled to Blaspheme

Hoshi’ana has posted an excellent exhortation for the saints. After reading it, the verse that came to my mind was,

“For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.” (Mk. 8:38)

May we never be ashamed of the Lord or His Words, whatever the personal cost!



And I (Paul) punished them oft in every synagogue,
and compelled them to blaspheme;
and being exceedingly mad against them,
I persecuted them even unto strange cities.

First Century Christianity

Before his conversion on the Road to Damascus, the Apostle Paul’s life was in great contrast to his life that would follow. He was a Pharisee and was tenacious on hunting down this new sect of Christ followers that was growing in his midst. Paul’s actions led to the imprisonment and execution of many first century saints. He was doing God’s will, or so he thought. Not long after disciple Stephen’s death by stoning, where Paul stood as a participant, he had a supernatural experience. Paul met Jesus and was changed forever more. He committed his life to serving the Messiah, preaching the gospel of salvation and building churches.
