Mike Bickle’s Bridal Paradigm & the Gnostic Bridal Chamber

Posted by israeliteindeed on July 6, 2014

Mike Bickle, founder of International House of Prayer (IHOP), teaches what he calls “The Bridal Paradigm.” He claims that until the global Church sees herself as the cherished Bride (in the way Bickle presents it) and is crying out, “Come, Lord Jesus” in a spirit of lovesickness,  Jesus cannot come back. His “Bridal Paradigm” teaching focuses on the Song of Solomon, and encourages believers to imagine themselves being ravished by Jesus, being the object of His attraction, etc. Sensual songs are written and performed so that people can imagine, dream and feel intimacy with Jesus. The bridal identity of the Church is stressed more than other biblical identities (such as sheep following a Shepherd, servants obeying a King, priests serving under a High Priest, children adopted by a Father, etc.). This imbalance leads to great mischief, especially since there is a lack of sound doctrine otherwise preached in these so called “houses of prayer.” (Read “Love and Death in the House of Prayer” if you want to see how much mischief can be caused by these errors.)  What is preached in IHOPS is generally visions and imaginations, loosely backed up with bits of Scripture ripped from context.

Most concerning to me is that Bickle teaches that the Church is stunted due to not having knowledge of his version of the “Bridal Paradigm.”  Think about that. According to this puffed up man, the global church needs secret knowledge that has been given only to him. That is pure gnosticism, my friends. It is a worship of knowledge, and a belief that by Bickle’s secret knowledge we shall be saved.

In researching gnosticism, I came across what is called “The Bridal Chamber” teaching of the gnostics, and alarms started going off in my mind. This teaching apparently dates back to early gnostic writings (Gospel of Thomas, Gospel of Philip), and stressed a kind of carnal knowledge of “the Christ,” or a marriage between “the Christ” and Sophia (“wisdom” which supposedly comes from inside us). You can research this for yourself, as there are plenty of pro-gnostic websites still promoting the ritual of the Bridal Chamber, like this one, which even claims that the spirit of “Sophia” arouses in us a “desire to pray.” How about that?!  It just so happens that Bickle also promotes repetitive, in-house prayer as the means to save the world, in direct disobedience to the Great Commission (which is to be carried out while we pray without ceasing).  Lest you think it is a stretch to connect Bickle to the gnostic bridal chamber ritual, he has gone on record promoting what he calls “chamber experiences.” (Mike Bickle, Song of Songs, 1998)

Further, there is evidence that Bickle’s “divine kiss” teaching, which supposes that we receive the Word through a kiss (source) is exactly like the “holy kiss” teaching of the gnostics! (Pro-gnosis site here, scroll down to “kiss” and take note of how similar this teaching is to Bickle’s, in that a kiss supposedly brings the revealing of hidden knowledge).

I tried to find Christian sites which had drawn a connection between the dangerous teachings of Mike Bickle and the gnostic Bridal Chamber teaching. I found none (which is not to say there are none). I believe there is a spiritual connection, and the same doctrines of demons that were circulating in the Apostle John’s day are still being taught today through deceivers like Mike Bickle. There is nothing new under the sun. Satan uses the same old lies to deceive those who have not received a love of the truth, because he finds that those lies continue to work!  As long as people desire experience over unchanging Truth (another element of gnosticism), they will continue to be led astray by their experiences. They will continue to look down their noses at the “uninitiated” who warn them of the deception, proudly assuming they have secret knowledge which gives them a one-up over others.

People who are drawn in by Mike Bickle’s teachings no doubt think his revelations are “deep” and “exciting.” I give this warning to all such people: Beware that you do not follow satan’s so called “deep secrets” (Rev. 2:24, NIV). It just may be that the teachings appear “deep” because they are, in fact, the “depths of satan.” (same verse in NKJV).

A Defense of the Deity of Jesus Christ

Posted by israeliteindeed on May 21, 2014

The following is a compilation of Scriptures with commentary and/or questions designed to help a Jehovah’s Witness (JW) see the truth about Jesus’ identity as God in the flesh. They believe Jesus was created as a human being in heaven by God the Father.

In my understanding, the deity of Christ is a non-negotiable doctrine (JW’s have other false doctrine also, but this is a huge one). Jesus said, “If you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.” (John 8:24) “He” was added by translators and was not in the original Scriptures. Therefore Jesus really said, “If you do not believe that I AM…”–referring to the Name given to Moses in Exo. 3:14. In John 18:5-6, this same declaration from Jesus (“I AM”) caused the arresting officers to draw back and fall to the ground.

I have decided to keep this list handy, and to personalize it for those JW’s with whom I come into contact. I will open with a personal letter and testimony of salvation, followed by this defense of the deity of Christ. As the Watch Tower Society (WTS) doesn’t allow its adherents to read the writings of others, a personal opening may help the sincere JW overcome his/her reluctance to read the material.

I encourage believers to talk to JW’s when they come knocking. I find the more I do it, the easier it gets. A true testimony of being set free from the power of sin, and having the witness of the Holy Spirit in us telling us we are children of God that may call Him “Father”(Rom. 8:15)–this is powerful and irrefutable. If they do not have the true Son of God, they do not have the Father or the Spirit (and in fact, they deny the person of the Spirit). They strain at the unnecessary gnat of using the Name “Jehovah,” while God’s children have permission to call Him Daddy. They cannot possibly have rest in their hearts, or ever feel sure they have eternal life. I hope this compilation will help you to reach out to those who need the Truth.

God bless you!

John 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14  And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

The Word was–existed–in the beginning. The Word not only was God, the Word was also with God. The Word which already existed in the beginning became flesh in the person of Jesus when He came to dwell among us.  The Word was not flesh from the beginning, but became flesh when Mary became pregnant with a human child conceived by the Holy Spirit of God.  Thus Jesus–the Word of God–became both the “Son of Man” and the “Son of God.”  It was at this time that Jesus was “begotten” of the Father, but He existed with the Father beforehand as the eternal Word of God.

John 1:3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

Isa. 44:24 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, And He who formed you from the womb: “I am the Lord, who makes all things, Who stretches out the heavens all alone, Who spreads abroad the earth by Myself;

How is the LORD/YHWH the Redeemer if Jesus is the Redeemer? How did the LORD/YHWH make all things BY HIMSELF if all things were made through Jesus?

Isa. 9:6  For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Two of Jesus’ names show that He is God in flesh.  How is the Child–Jesus–everlasting? Who is everlasting but God? (Psa. 93:2; Isa. 63:16)

John 8:58-59 Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”  Then they took up stones to throw at Him…

The Jews understood Jesus’ meaning, which is why they began to stone Him.  Even the KIT (Kingdom Interlinear Translation) 1969 has the Greek translation correct; although regrettably, the English side is mistranslated in order to uphold the Watch Tower Society doctrine.

John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

“The only begotten Son” reads “the only begotten God” in the NU-Text, and is translated this way in the NASB.  The ESV says, “The only God, who is at the Father’s side, has made Him known.”  The only begotten Son = The Word made flesh. That Word went out, took on a human body in the person of Jesus, and accomplished all He was sent to do–Isa. 55:11.

Titus 3:4 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared

God is the only Savior–Psa. 106:21, Isa. 43:3, 11; Isa. 45:15, 21; Isa. 49:26; Isa. 60:16; Isa. 63:8; Hos. 13:4; Lk. 1:47; I Tim. 4:10. Jesus is our Savior–Lk. 2:11; Acts 13:23; Phil. 3:20; 2 Tim. 1:10; Titus 1:4, 3:6; 2 Pet. 1:1, 11, 2:20 etc. Titus 2:13 says, “our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.”

How are both God and Jesus the only Savior?

Col. 1:15-16   He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.  For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.

As the image of the invisible God,  Jesus is “Immanuel”–God with us.  (Matt. 1:23)  See also Heb. 1:3, where Jesus is called “the express image of His [God’s] person.”

In response to the request, “Show us the Father,” Jesus said, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?  Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.”  Jesus’ words, “Yet you have not known Me,” indicate that Philip had not yet recognized the Father in Jesus. The Father is not simply one with Jesus in purpose;  He DWELLS in Jesus.

Gen. 1:1 says God created everything. This passage says plainly that Jesus created everything. Notice it says “all things” were created by Him, including thrones, dominions, & powers. If Jesus Himself were created, then all thrones, dominions, and powers were not created by Him!

Col. 2:9  For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily

How does ALL the fullness of the Godhead dwell bodily in Jesus?

Micah 5:2 But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.

Who is this prophecy about?  If it is about the Messiah (and it is), how are the Messiah’s goings forth from everlasting?  Psalm 93:2 and Isa. 63:16 declare that YHWH is from everlasting.

Zech. 12:10 …then they will look on Me whom they pierced….

This is God speaking of the repentance of some of “the house of David.” How will they look upon God/YHWH, whom they have pierced?  There is a clue in the following verse:

Acts 20:28 …shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

How did God purchase the church with His own blood?

Rev. 1:7 Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him.

Is this referring to Jesus? If so, why does YHWH say they will look upon HIM in Zech. 12:10?

Psalm 45:6-7  Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom. You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions.

This passage speaks to God on the throne of an eternal kingdom, and says God has been anointed by God with the oil of gladness.

Heb. 1:8But to the Son He says:“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever…

The writer of Hebrews makes very clear that “God” who is being addressed in Psalm 45 is the Son.  “The Son” is God! The Hebrew word for “God” in Psalm 45 is “Elohim.”  The Greek word for “God” in Heb. 1:8 is “Theos.” Both of these words for “God” are used all over Scripture and never mean anything less than God/Deity.

Rev. 1:17-18 I [Jesus] am the First and the Last.  I am He who lives, and was dead…

Rev. 22:12-13 And behold, I [Jesus] am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.  I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.

Isa. 44:6 Thus says the Lord [YHWH], the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: ‘I am the First and I am the Last; besides Me there is no God.

Isa. 48:12 I [YHWH] am He, I am the First, I am also the Last.

How are both YHWH and Jesus both the First and the Last?

Phil. 2:5-8  Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,  who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.  And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

How was Jesus “in the form of God”?  How could it not be considered robbery for Jesus to be equal with God, unless He really was?!   Notice He “took the form” of a bondservant and “came in the likeness of men.” He was not a man originally (as the WTS teaches). He took the form of a man at His incarnation in a human body.

I Tim. 3:16God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up in glory.

This Scripture is clearly talking about Jesus. Doesn’t this Scripture fit perfectly with Col. 2:9?

John 10:11I am the good shepherd. [spoken by Jesus]

Why did Jesus take the same title as YHWH in Psalm 23:1, Psalm 80:1, and Ezekiel 34:12?

Matt. 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit

How are the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit included under one name?

I Tim. 6:14-16keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing, which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords,  who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power.

Who is the “only Potentate, and King of kings and Lord of lords?” (See also Rev. 17:14, 19:16, which call Jesus/the Word of God these titles.)  How can Jesus be the ONLY potentate? (A potentate is a sovereign ruler.)  How does He “ALONE have immortality”?

John 17:5And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.

Isa. 42:8I am the Lord, that is My name; and My glory I will not give to another…

Isa. 48:11 …I (YHWH) will not give My glory to another.

Why is Jesus asking for the glory He shared with the Father if the Father will not give His glory to another?

Joel 2:32 And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Peter had quoted Joel 2:32 earlier in Acts 2:21. When asked what they should do to be saved, he told his listeners to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Why did he tell them about Jesus, and tell them to be baptized in His Name, rather than just telling them about “the name of the LORD (YHWH)”?

Why also did Paul quote Joel 2:32, while telling people to confess with their mouth the Lord Jesus? (Rom. 10:9-13).

Isa. 45:23  I have sworn by Myself; the word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, that to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall take an oath.

Rom. 14:10-11we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

Phil. 2:10-11at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Isaiah records YHWH as saying every knee will bow to Him. Paul quotes this in Romans, reminding us that we must stand before Christ to be judged, and Philippians says it is at the name of Jesus everyone will bow. Will we be bowing to God or to Jesus?  The answer is:  BOTH. Everyone must submit to God’s Word, and God’s Word is God.

Isa. 8:13-14The Lord (YHWH) of hosts, Him you shall hallow… He will be as a sanctuary, but a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense to both the houses of Israel

I Peter 2:4  Coming to Him (Jesus) as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious…to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, the stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone,” and “A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense.”

Who is the stone of stumbling and rock of offense?  Isaiah said it was “the LORD of hosts,.”   Peter, quoting Isaiah, attributed the title to Jesus.

John 20:28 And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”

Why did Jesus allow Thomas to address Him as both Lord and God?

Matt. 14:33Then those who were in the boat came andworshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.”

Matt. 28:9Jesus met them, saying, “Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him.

John 9:38Then he said, “Lord, I believe!” And he worshiped Him.

The NWT (New World Translation) translates the Greek word “proskuneo” as “obeisance” whenever it is used with Jesus.  While “obeisance” is one of the synonyms possible, “proskuneo” is correctly translated as “worship” in Matt. 4:9, 10; Luke 4:7-8; Jn. 4:20-24, 12:20; Acts 7:43, 8:27, 24:11; I Cor. 14:25; Heb. 11:21; Rev. 4:10, 5:14, 7:11, 9:20, 11:1&16, 13:4-15, 14:7-11, 15:4, 16:2, 19:4-20, 20:4, 22:8-9.

Other translations consistently translate the word “proskuneo” as “worship” no matter who is in view (YHWH, Jesus, satan, the beast, etc.). The NWT, on the other hand, is not consistent at all. It is clear to me that the NWT has translated this word according to their pre-held doctrine, rather than developing their doctrine based upon what is written.  The 1970 NWT translated “proskuneo” in Heb. 1:6 as “worship,” even though Jesus was the object of that worship.  In the 1980 edition, “worship” was changed to “obeisance.” The WTS would probably say that the church found a mistake and corrected it. I contend that it was originally translated correctly, and later changed to fit the WTS dogma, and this is part of an effort by satan to hide the true identity of Jesus.

Obviously, if Jesus did not correct the worship of His followers directed toward Him, He is either God or a usurper. This is why JW translators have picked the word “obeisance” where Jesus is in view, rather than translating consistently.  Do not be deceived!
